Black Queens To Resume Training Ahead Of Egypt Clash After Talks with GFA President

Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, have called off their two-day strike over unpaid bonuses and are set to resume training on Monday ahead of their crucial 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against Egypt.

According to JoySports sources, the standoff was resolved after Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, met with the players at their hotel in Accra on Monday morning. The meeting, described as “constructive,” helped ease tensions between the team and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation over outstanding payments from the 2024 WAFCON campaign.

The players had refused to train since Saturday, demanding payment of bonuses reportedly amounting to $9,500 per player.

Following the discussions, the team’s leadership agreed to end the protest and resume preparations for Tuesday’s decisive return leg at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ghana head into the game with a commanding 3–0 advantage from the first leg in Cairo, leaving them in a strong position to secure qualification for the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco, a tournament that also serves as a pathway to the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
