Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, hosted a breakfast meeting with the five presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at his private residence in Nima, Accra.
A statement from his office said the meeting aimed to strengthen unity and foster camaraderie among the aspirants as the party prepares for its presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.
In his remarks, former President Akufo-Addo expressed appreciation to the aspirants for honouring his invitation despite their tight campaign schedules, describing their attendance as proof of their dedication to the party’s collective progress.
“Your presence this morning is a testament to your shared commitment to the collective good and prospects of our party,” he said.
He noted that he has worked closely with each aspirant and respects their individual contributions, describing their candidacies as a reflection of merit and service to both the NPP and the nation.
The former President encouraged them to conduct their campaigns with decorum and focus on policies and ideas that would move the country forward.
“My primary commitment is to the unity of the NPP, the credibility of the process, and to ensuring that the party is fully energised and rallied to secure victory in the 2028 elections,” he added.
In a show of solidarity, all five aspirants — Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Ken Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong — pledged to run a clean and issue-based campaign. They also assured the former President of their readiness, and that of their supporters, to unite behind the eventual flagbearer after the primaries.
They further stressed the importance of cohesion and reaffirmed their commitment to preserving the spirit of unity within the party.
Other notable attendees included Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders; Danquah Smith Buttey, Acting National Chairman; Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary; Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader; and Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, former Chief of Staff.
Concluding the meeting, former President Akufo-Addo called on the party leadership to ensure a fair, transparent, and credible process that would strengthen the NPP ahead of the 2028 general elections.
