The British Deputy High Commissioner to Ghana, Keith McMahon, has admitted he would have preferred Liverpool to sign Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus instead of German star Florian Wirtz.
Speaking in an interview during a public engagement in Accra, McMahon, a self-confessed Liverpool fan, praised Kudus for his creativity and drive, describing him as “amazing” and exactly the kind of player the Reds needed this season.
“Mohammed Kudus. The man is amazing,” McMahon said. “I don’t know why we didn’t buy him from West Ham. I would have bought him before Wirtz.”
Liverpool signed Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen during the summer transfer window, but the 21-year-old has struggled to find his rhythm under Arne Slot, failing to score in 11 games so far. His performances have drawn criticism from sections of the Anfield faithful, who are calling for more urgency in attack.
Meanwhile, Kudus has made an impressive start to life at Tottenham Hotspur, registering one goal and four assists in eight Premier League appearances.
McMahon’s remarks echo a growing sentiment among Liverpool supporters who believe the Ghanaian international’s flair and versatility would have been a better fit for the team’s attacking setup.
Kudus, 24, has been one of Ghana’s brightest talents in recent years and continues to attract attention for his dynamic performances in both club and international football.
