Betano Ghana will refund outright bets placed on the Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup campaign after Ghana’s elimination in the Round of 32, offering some consolation to punters who had backed a deeper run at the tournament.

Ghana’s hopes of progressing further ended with a 1-0 defeat by Colombia in the last 32, despite the Black Stars advancing from Group L as one of the competition’s best third-placed sides. The exit ended the team’s World Cup journey – but not the betting story for many supporters.

The betting firm has confirmed that customers who staked on Ghana in the outright markets will have their funds returned, rather than seeing those bets simply settled as losses.

Explaining the decision on Asempa FM’s Sports Avenue Show, Betano Ghana Marketing Manager George Bright-Abu said the move was driven by national feeling around the team.

“In the spirit of patriotism, we are refunding the funds to players who bet on the outright markets,” he said. “Instead of voiding those bets, we’ve taken a bold decision to refund our players, in our own little way, to support the Black Stars.”

How the refund works

Betano Ghana has urged eligible customers to verify that their money has been returned by logging into their accounts on the company’s app or website and checking their balances.

The refunds apply to qualifying outright bets placed on Ghana’s overall performance at the World Cup, rather than individual match markets. The company has not announced any changes to settlements for other bet types related to the Black Stars or the wider tournament.

The decision effectively restores the stakes of punters who had expected Ghana to go beyond the Round of 32, softening the financial blow of the team’s early exit.

Looking beyond the World Cup

With the World Cup nearing its conclusion, Betano Ghana is already positioning itself for the return of domestic and continental football, aiming to shift fans’ focus towards the upcoming club season.

The operator is promoting a new welcome package as it seeks to keep betting interest high once the tournament finishes. According to the company, new customers who register can receive up to GH¢2,000 as part of an offer billed as providing “the ultimate online betting experience”.

Betano Ghana is also highlighting that the coming months will bring a full calendar of fixtures across Europe’s leading leagues and other competitions worldwide, giving fans new opportunities to bet after the drama of the World Cup.

For many supporters, Ghana’s exit at the last-32 stage will feel like a missed opportunity after the team’s progress from Group L. But for those who had placed outright wagers on the Black Stars’ campaign, Betano Ghana’s refund policy ensures their backing for the national side will not come at a financial cost.
