Ghana international goalkeeper Richard Ofori has set his sights on representing the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting he is working tirelessly at club level to earn his place.
The AmaZulu shot-stopper, who has been in and out of the national team in recent years due to injuries and competition, says his focus is on performing consistently in the South African Premier Soccer League to catch the attention of head coach Otto Addo.
“I’m working hard in my team to help my team in the league, and then the rest will take over,” Ofori told iDiskiTimes.
Although he has not spoken to the Black Stars coach recently, Ofori shared his admiration for Addo’s leadership and personal touch.
“Recently, no, I haven’t spoken to the coach Otto Addo. But before, he used to call me, and he’s a good man, so he used to check up on his players,” he said.
Ofori, 30, has been part of Ghana’s national setup for nearly a decade and featured at both the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers. With the 2026 tournament approaching, competition for the goalkeeper position is stronger than ever, with the likes of, Benjamin Asare, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, and others also in contention.
However, Ofori remains confident that hard work and perseverance will give him a chance to return to the biggest stage in world football.
The Black Stars have already secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup, and Otto Addo is expected to assess all available options before naming his final squad.
