The New Abirem Municipal Fire Station in the Eastern Region responded swiftly to a road accident involving a National Ambulance Service vehicle at Afosu in the Birim North Municipality on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
According to officials, the station received a distress call at 2:30 p.m., prompting the immediate dispatch of a seven-member firefighting team led by LFM Tenkorang Ofori Prince. The crew arrived at the scene within minutes.
Preliminary information revealed that the ambulance, which was operating from Nkawkaw, suffered brake failure, causing it to somersault multiple times before coming to a halt. Four people were onboard the vehicle at the time of the accident.
All the victims were successfully rescued and rushed to the New Abirem Government Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
After the rescue operation, the fire crew cleared blood stains and other debris from the road to ensure the safe flow of traffic. They also recovered several important medical items from the damaged ambulance, including a fire extinguisher, ventilator, cardiac monitor, chest compression device, stethoscope, and telephone.
The Ghana Police Service was on-site to assist with traffic management and ensure order during the recovery exercise.
Authorities have since launched investigations into the cause of the accident.
