One billion cedis water project for Wiamoase

Wiamoase (Ashanti Region), 3 Jan. ’99,

Wiamoase in the Afigya-Sekyere district of Ashanti is to benefit from the implementation of a billion-cedi water project to be funded under the European Union (EU) and the Ghana Government Community Water and Sanitation Scheme. The community is expected to contribute 50 million cedis, representing five percent of the total cost of the project, while the remaining amount is to be borne by the EU and the Ghana government. Mr Alfred Amankwa, chairman of the Wiamoase Town Council said at a fund-raising rally organised by the Wiamoase Water and Sanitation Development Board in collaboration with the Town Council that every household in the community was contributing 30,000 cedis to enable them to raise the town’s 50 million cedis share of the project cost. Already, 10 million cedis has been mobilised from the various households, while non-resident citizens have so far contributed a total of 20 million cedis.
