Mob prevent outdooring of chief

Santeo (GA/R), 5 Jan. ’99– The people of Santeo, a village under the Nungua stool near Ashaiman, last Saturday prevented Captain J.B. Ninepence (rtd) from Nungua from being outdoored as the chief of the village. The people blocked the main road linking the village with a tractor to prevent the organisers and invited guests from entering the village. “Captain Ninepence was being imposed on the village from Nungua”, Mr Bortei, an opinion leader told newsmen who were themselves, initially denied access to the village. ”We were not informed about the outdooring until the last day when I was given an invitation card to the ceremony. This is not proper”, he stressed. He said the natives of Santeo left the village to stay at Nungua, leaving their great grandfathers behind to develop the area, adding that. royals of Nungua have not contributed to the development of Santeo, neither do they visit the town. “Then out of the blue, they are going to install a chief here. We will not agree to that. In which house is the chief going to dress up for the function and host his people”, Mr Bortei asked, pointing out that the Nungua royals ought to have consulted Santeo royals on the issue but failed to do so. Some of the invited guests including the chief and elders of Oyibi as well as Mr Emmanuel Adzei Anang, secretary-general of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) therefore had to abandon the ceremony.
