The Jaman North District Chief Executive, Honorable Adane George, has announced that calm has been restored in Sampa, a town in the Bono Region of Ghana, following violent disturbances related to chieftaincy issues that erupted on September 10, 2025.
According to the District Chief Executive, the clash that occurred yesterday was unexpected, as the District Security Council (DISEC) had convened to discuss writing to the Interior Minister to lift the curfew placed on Sampa. This consideration followed months of peaceful coexistence in the community, only for gunshots and disturbances to rise again due to the chieftaincy dispute and gazetting process.
Speaking on GIFTs FM Morning Show, hosted by Kwaku Mensah Abrampa, the District Chief Executive reported that the clash resulted in one death and several injuries, including a police officer who sustained a gunshot wound and is currently receiving treatment at Sampa Government Hospital. Additionally, nearly half of Sampa Market was destroyed by fire. The disturbances necessitated immediate intervention by the Ghana Police Service, which has successfully restored calm in the community as of today, with ongoing security measures in place to maintain peace.
Honorable Adane George further stated that the current police and military presence in Sampa is sufficient to maintain peace and order following the intervention of the Assembly and the Bono Regional Minister. He emphasized that the disturbances had instilled fear and tension among residents, prompting both students and teachers to refrain from attending school today due to the ongoing gunfire and unrest.
