NGO’s warned not to misappropriate monies

Kumasi, Aug 28, GNA-Mrs Gladys Asmah, Minister of Women and Children’s Affairs, has cautioned non-governmental organisations who are committed to championing the cause of women and children in the country not to use the monies allocated them for different purposes. “Monies allocated to you in the name of the public should not be committed to your own administrative cost but for the actual work which benefit the people”, she said.

Mrs Asmah was launching the ‘Mmobrowah’ Foundation, an NGO, which is committed to supporting and assisting the needy in the society in Kumasi on Friday.

Expressing regrets about the gradual demise of the nation’s virtuous traditional practices, Mrs Asmah said it behoved on NGOs to effectively partner the government to re-orient, educate and train the youth to appreciate their rich cultural values.

“In our quest to modernise and develop we must not loose sight of the nation’s cultural heritage”, she said.

She commended the foundation for its regular visits to prisons to interact with inmates and also supporting those suffering from buruli ulcer at Manso-Tontokrom in the Amansie West District.

Mr Kwaku Owusu, Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, said the NGO had plans to set up a multi-purpose development centre at Offinso to equip girls with employable skills. It will also train ex-convicts.
