NDC opens nominations for Tamale Central parliamentary primary

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially opened nominations for its parliamentary primaries in the Tamale Central Constituency, following the passing of the area’s Member of Parliament, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who died in the August 6 helicopter crash that claimed eight lives.

In a statement dated August 20 and signed by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party announced that nomination forms would be available for collection and submission at the NDC Northern Regional Office.

The nomination window, which began on Friday, August 22, will close on Sunday, August 24.

According to the party, a certified delegates’ list will be made available to aspirants after the vetting process. Nomination forms are priced at GH₵5,000, with a filing fee of GH₵40,000. Female aspirants and persons with disabilities will, however, benefit from a 50 percent reduction on the filing fee.

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has indicated it will not present a candidate in the Tamale Central by-election, citing respect for the late Dr. Murtala Muhammed and the impact of his sudden demise on the constituency.
