U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the official draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be staged at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., on 5 December.
Mr Trump described the tournament as a historic opportunity for the United States, predicting that it would inject more than $30 billion into the American economy.
“The 2026 FIFA World Cup will generate more than $30 billion for the US economy,” he said, stressing that the competition would not only boost sports tourism but also strengthen the country’s global sporting profile.
The draw at the Kennedy Center, an iconic performing arts venue in the capital, will set the stage for the first-ever 48-team World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Football officials and fans have welcomed the announcement, with many describing the choice of venue as symbolic of the prestige of the tournament.
The World Cup is expected to draw millions of international visitors and unite three nations in what FIFA has billed as the biggest and most commercially successful tournament in football history.
