Nigerian club Kwara United say they are ready to cause an upset against Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko in the preliminary round of the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.
The two sides, both making a return to continental football, were drawn against each other in a highly anticipated first-round tie.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Kwara United General Manager, Mallam Bashir Badawiy, expressed quiet confidence in his team’s ability to advance.
“The expectation is for us to do better than the last time we played in the Confederation Cup,” he told Akoma FM. “We are not here to boast, football is the same everywhere. It’s not war, it’s not do-or-die. We’ll try our best to make our fans, supporters, and well-wishers happy.”
Badawiy also reflected on the cyclical nature of football dominance in Ghana, noting that while Kotoko are a strong force, “things change in football, and so we will overcome this hurdle.”
The first leg will be hosted by Kotoko between 19 and 21 September, with the return leg in Nigeria set for 26–28 September. The winner will face Moroccan heavyweights Wydad Casablanca in the next round.
