A military helicopter has crashed and burned beyond recognition at Adansi Akrofuom in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, sparking concerns over the fate of the eight individuals on board.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 6, with eyewitnesses describing a fiery scene and a loud explosion shortly before the wreckage was discovered.
According to a statement released by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), the helicopter had three crew members and five passengers on board. It was en route from Accra to Obuasi when it suddenly went off radar.
“The aircraft was from Accra and heading for Obuasi and is currently off the radar. All efforts are being made to establish contact,” the GAF said in a statement.
As of this report, no official confirmation has been given regarding casualties, though the extent of the destruction has raised fears that there may be no survivors.
This is the first major military aviation incident in Ghana in recent years, and it comes amid growing calls for modernization of the country’s aging military air fleet.
