A group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament on Tuesday, August 5, picked up nomination forms on behalf of presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, signaling his early entry into the presidential primaries set for January 31, 2026.
The delegation included Kwaku Kwarteng, MP for Obuasi West; Charles Forson of Tema West; Stephen Amoah, MP for Nhyiaeso; and Lawrence Agyinsam, MP for Hemang Lower Denkyira.
They were joined by Dr. Alex Ampaabeng, a former Deputy Finance Minister under the Akufo-Addo administration, who has openly backed Agyapong, describing him as the right candidate to lead both the NPP and the country.
“As the momentum builds toward the January 31st primary, it is becoming increasingly clear which key figures are aligning with the major contenders in the race,” a party insider told reporters.
Kennedy Agyapong, who finished second to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 flagbearer contest, becomes the first aspirant to officially pick up nomination forms for the 2026 race, a move seen as both early and strategic in the lead-up to the 2028 general elections.
