Driver jailed for violating traffic rules

Tema, Aug. 25, GNA – The Circuit Court ‘B’ in Tema on Wednesday sentenced a taxi driver who faced three counts of traffic offences to 14 days imprisonment with hard labour.

Benjamin Arthur pleaded guilty to charges of picking passengers at unauthorised places, and preventing the free flow of traffic.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Ben Agbedanu told the court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that, on August 25, 2004, at 0940 hours, the Motor Traffic Transport Union police on patrol saw the accused person parked his vehicle at an unauthorised place at the business centre at Tema Community One in front of the Tema Municipal Assembly.

Insp Agbedanu said Arthur picked passengers, preventing the free flow of traffic.

Mr Teye said the sentence served as a deterrent to other recalcitrant drivers.
