Ghana’s top criminal investigator has given a major update on the recent murder of an immigration officer and a string of stolen vehicle cases that have gripped national attention.
Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), says her team is making significant headway in both investigations.
“We’re closing in,” she stated emphatically during a press briefing on Monday. “These cases are of high importance to us, and I want to assure the public that we’re working around the clock to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
The murder case, which involves a young immigration officer who was reportedly killed under suspicious circumstances, has sparked widespread public outrage and calls for swift justice. Though details remain limited due to the sensitive nature of the investigation, COP Donkor confirmed that “key leads have been established” and arrests are expected soon.
In parallel, the CID is also probing an alarming increase in high-value vehicle thefts across major cities. COP Donkor disclosed that some of the stolen cars have already been traced, and several suspects are currently assisting with investigations.
“These crimes, especially those involving violence and organized theft, will not be allowed to flourish in this country,” she affirmed. “We are working with regional and international partners to track stolen vehicles and networks across borders.”
She also urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by providing credible tips.
“We understand the anxiety these crimes have caused. But I want to reassure Ghanaians that the CID is not sleeping on the job. Justice will be served,” COP Donkor added.
