Apremdo (W/R) Aug.24 -GNA- The Nsona family of Apremdo, in the Western Region, has petitioned the Ministry of Defence, to pay compensation for family lands acquired for the construction of barracks for the Second Battalion of Infantry (2BN).
Mr John Natt Panyin, family spokesman who met with the Commander of the Infantry, Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Ayitor said government took over the lands in 1960, without paying any compensation to the affected families. Mr Panyin said the affected families were not prepared to surrender more lands to the military authorities for the establishment of a proposed buffer zone around the barracks.
Lt.Col. Ayitor said the Government and the Ghana Armed Forces were prepared to pay compensation to secure the lands.
He said 10 other families had approached the authorities of the 2BN over the same land and “this is creating problems for us”. Col. Ayitor said the proposed buffer zone was meant to restrict the construction of private residential quarters, close to the barracks and warned that, he would not allow any individual or groups of people to encroach on any land belonging to the Battalion.
