The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has reiterated the government’s commitment to eradicating illegal mining, describing the effort as a “marathon, not a sprint.”

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series, the Minister emphasized that the fight against illegal mining is a long-term endeavor that requires sustained effort and resolve.

“We know that it is a marathon and not a sprint,” he said. “We will definitely prevail in the end. I am very sure about that.”

The Minister assured that the government is not opposed to mining, but rather seeks to promote responsible and sustainable practices.

“We are clearly focused on ensuring that we win,” he said. “We are also not against mining at all. In fact, we are doing everything possible to encourage responsible, sustainable mining.”

Mr. Buah announced that the government has intensified its clampdown on illegal mining activities, resulting in the seizure of 425 excavators and other mining machinery across the country.

The Forestry Commission has also seized additional equipment from illegal miners, including 177 excavators, 4 bulldozers, 12 vehicles, and other machinery.

The Minister’s comments underscore the government’s determination to tackle the issue of illegal mining and promote sustainable practices in the sector.
