Midfield maestro Grace Asantewaa has declared it’s Ghana’s moment to shine, after the Black Queens edged Algeria 4–2 on penalties to book their place in the semi-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The tightly contested quarter-final ended 0–0 after extra time, but the Black Queens held their nerve during the shootout, thanks in large part to goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan’s stunning saves. Asantewaa, who was named Player of the Match, played a pivotal role in Ghana’s midfield throughout the encounter.
Beaming with pride after the match, Asantewaa shared her joy and belief in the team’s title ambitions.
“I’m very happy. It is time for Ghana to win the WAFCON,” she said confidently.

This victory sets up a high-stakes semi-final clash with host nation Morocco, a matchup already drawing attention across the continent.
Ghana is chasing its first-ever WAFCON title, and Asantewaa believes the stars may finally be aligning. “We’ve come a long way. Now, we have to stay focused and take it one game at a time. But yes this is our time.”
