Ghana Military to Recruit 12,000 Troops – Defence Minister Vows Clean, Corruption-Free Enlistment

Ghana’s military is set to undergo a major expansion as the Ministry of Defence prepares to recruit and train 12,000 new personnel, Minister for Defence Dr Edward Omane Boamah has announced.

The revelation comes after a nearly 11-hour working tour of key military installations within the 1 Garrison of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), including the Eastern Naval Command and Michel Camp.

Dr Boamah praised the professionalism and readiness of the armed forces during the tour, led by Commodore Asiedu-Larbi, and reaffirmed government’s commitment to boosting national security and the welfare of military personnel.

“This tour has given me a firsthand view of the operational strength and tireless dedication of our men and women in uniform,” he said.

The new recruits are expected to undergo training at the Army Recruits Training School and the Ghana Military Academy. The minister emphasized that the recruitment drive would be conducted with strict transparency.

“Let me repeat: recruitment and enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces is not for sale, and will not be for sale under my #EAGLEEYES watch!” Dr Boamah stressed.

The visit also included a live demonstration by troops at Michel Camp, showcasing their capacity to respond to high-threat scenarios, including explosive ordnance disposal.

Dr Boamah reiterated the Mahama administration’s #ResettingGhana agenda, stating, “We’re working hard to ensure our soldiers’ welfare, safety, and professionalism remain unmatched in the region.”

The recruitment campaign marks one of the largest recent expansions of the Ghana Armed Forces, aimed at reinforcing peacekeeping operations, internal security, and regional defence collaboration.
