Agradaa seeks bail pending appeal against 15-Year jail term

Lawyers for Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, have filed an application for bail pending appeal after she was convicted and sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labor.

Nana Agradaa, founder of Heaven Way Champion International Ministry, was found guilty of defrauding members of the public and was sentenced on July 3, 2025.

In their application, Nana Agradaa’s lawyers, led by Richard Asare Baffour, argue that the conviction and sentence were wrong.

They claim that the trial was flawed and exhibited bias, stating that “the applicant is confident that the appeal has a strong chance of success due to the flaws that characterized the trial and the bias exhibited by the trial judge.”

The lawyers also undertook to ensure Nana Agradaa’s availability in court as required and to comply with the terms of the bail bond. They added that the sureties would provide adequate security as required by the court.

Nana Agradaa’s appeal contends that the trial judge shifted the burden of proof to her to prove her innocence, rather than requiring the prosecution to prove her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

She also argues that the judge selectively analyzed evidence and failed to consider mitigating factors during sentencing.

The Circuit Court had sentenced her to 25 penalty units or 30 days in default for charlatanic advertisement and 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labor for defrauding by false pretenses, with the sentences to run concurrently.

Nana Agradaa’s lawyers believe the appeal has a strong chance of success and are seeking bail pending the appeal’s outcome.
