The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, has issued a firm warning to members of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) against engaging in unauthorised military operations, stressing that such actions risk damaging the reputation of the institution.
Addressing troops during a durbar at the 1 Garrison in Michel Camp, the CDS made it clear that any personnel caught conducting unsanctioned operations would face serious disciplinary action.
“The integrity of the Ghana Armed Forces is non-negotiable,” Lt. Gen. Agyapong declared. “No one has the right to act outside the chain of command. The consequences will be severe.”
His visit formed part of a broader working tour aimed at engaging with personnel on the ground, boosting morale, and reinforcing operational and ethical standards across the service.
In his remarks, Lt Gen Agyapong also touched on the growing misuse of social media by some military personnel, warning that online conduct must reflect the values and professionalism of the armed forces.
“What you post, share, or engage with on social media can affect not just your image, but that of the entire Ghana Armed Forces,” he cautioned.
The CDS further stressed the importance of regular training and physical fitness, reminding troops that operational readiness requires not only discipline but also good health and preparedness.
“Take your health seriously,” he advised. “A soldier who is not physically or mentally fit cannot be effective in duty.”
The call for professionalism comes at a time when public confidence in state security forces has faced scrutiny, especially during election-related operations and civil demonstrations.
His message was clear: the Ghana Armed Forces must remain a disciplined, respected institution, focused solely on its constitutional mandate.
