Mr. Kofi Aning, from Aboabo No.1 near Dormaa Ahenkro and currently residing in Columbus, Ohio, USA, has voiced his concerns regarding the persistent developmental issues and challenges that Ghana faces as a nation. He emphasized that these developmental hurdles must be ascribed to the actions of the country’s political leadership.
He remarked that it is distressing to witness Ghanaian employed graduates working for approximately three to four months without receiving their salaries, a predicament that does not occur in the United States. He underscored that the delay in salary payments to employees is the catalyst for ongoing workplace theft, bribery, corruption scandals, and a lackadaisical attitude towards work. He noted that residents abroad perceive the benefits of the taxes they pay to the government, thus they willingly comply with tax obligations, with all laws and enforcement agencies functioning effectively to ensure compliance.
He lamented that it is appalling to see all the abundant minerals and rich natural resources in Ghana, yet our leaders struggle to facilitate progress.
On his part, the Chief of Kobedi No.1 near Sunyani in the Bono Region, Nana Aning Yeboah Asuamah, who also serves as the Akyeremade Adontenhene, addressed the alarming prevalence of drug and substance abuse among the youth, coupled with teenage pregnancies. He observed that young men, under the influence of these potent drugs, occasionally resort to coercion with young women, resulting in unintended pregnancies—a matter he emphasized requires urgent attention.
He consequently advised young men to abstain from drug and substance abuse and to lead respectable lives within the community. He further implored young women to refrain from engaging in sexual activities prematurely to prevent pregnancies. He urged parents to vigilantly oversee their children’s activities to ensure they exhibit commendable conduct within society. Additionally, he called upon community members, stakeholders, and traditional authorities to intensify awareness campaigns against hard drugs, early sexual encounters, and relationships with multiple partners. He stressed the importance of ensuring that children are fully enrolled in school to secure a brighter future, as education is the paramount key to a successful future.
