Otapirow community appeals for electricity power

Otapirow (C/R), Aug. 20, GNA – Nana Osompa XII, Chief of Otapirow, near Agona Swedru, in the Central Region, has appealed to the government to connect the farming community to the national electricity grid.

Nana Osompa, who made the appeal during the annual Yam Festival, of the chiefs and people said through self-help, the community had erected 40 electricity poles in anticipation of electricity supply. He noted that connecting the town to hydro-electric power would facilitate the establishment of small-scale enterprises.

Nana Osompa also asked the government to construct a link road between Otapirow and Agona Swedru, to ensure the smooth transportation of farm produce to marketing centres to reverse the perennial post harvest losses afflicting farmers in the area.

He appealed to District Assembly to construct a three-classroom block to cater for junior secondary school students who have to walk several miles to Agona Swedru for tuition.

Nana Osompa urged married couples to stick to their partners to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS.

The youth he said must also abstain from indiscriminate sex. Nana Osompa called on the Community Based Organisations and non-governmental organisations to extend their educational campaigns to the grassroots to sensitise the people about the dangers of the pandemic.
