The Central East Regional Police Command has secured a swift conviction in a robbery case, with 20-year-old Mohammed Bello sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment with hard labour by the Ofankor Circuit Court.
According to a police statement issued on Tuesday, Bello was arrested in the early hours of 6th July 2025 following a violent robbery incident near Gomoa Buduatta Junction along the Kasoa-Winneba Road. He and four accomplice currently on the run, allegedly attacked and robbed drivers and passengers, making away with mobile phones and an undisclosed sum of money.
A swift intelligence-led response by police led to Bello’s arrest as he attempted to flee the area. A search on him uncovered GH₵3,740 in cash, several mobile phones including two Samsung devices, a Tecno Spark 20, and other items such as a lady’s purse, power bank, headset, and a pair of sandals, the latter positively identified by a victim.
The suspect pleaded guilty in court and was immediately convicted and sentenced.
DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo, Head of Public Affairs for the Central East Region, said in the release:
“The Central East Regional Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the public by bringing all accomplices of this crime to face the full rigors of the law.”
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects as the police intensify their operations in the area. The conviction is being hailed as a decisive step in curbing rising incidents of highway robbery in the region.
