Rotary Club of Tema donates books to Nzema East schools

Axim (Western Region), 7 Dec ’98 – The Rotary Club of Tema at the weekend donated a large consignment of books valued at more than 40,000 dollars to schools in the Nzema East District. The books were donated by McGraw Hill, Simon and Schuster, and the “Brother-Brother” Foundation of the United States. The presentation, which was the highlight of the third annual Best Teachers’ Award winners celebration, was in response to an appeal made to Rotary Club of Tema by Mr Kojo Armah, Member of Parliament for Evalue Gwira constituency. The books were shipped free of charge by VALCO in Tema. In an address, Mr Seth Adjei, past president and chairman of the Books Project Committee of Rotary Club of Tema, said the donation was meant to inculcate the reading habit in students. Mr Adjei expressed the wish of donors that the teachers would assist the pupils and students to help improve their reading skills. Mr Armah said education in Nzemaland and Ghana in general has been his preoccupation over the years. He announced that 13 primary, junior and senior secondary schools had been selected under the MP’s educational programme for assistance. The District Chief Executive, Mr J.R.D. Kobinah, expressed the gratitude of the chiefs and people of the district to Tema Rotary Club for the donation.
