I Was Gifted GH₵100k for Taking Photos with Fan’s Children – Kalybos

Actor and comedian Kalybos has revealed that a spontaneous decision to take photos with children in traffic earned him an unexpected gift of GH₵100,000.

Sharing the story on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with host Kwame Dadzie, Kalybos—real name Richard Asante—recalled how the encounter happened in 2016 while he was stuck in traffic along the Osu road in Accra.

“One time I was in heavy traffic on the Osu road and a car pulled up beside mine. The kids in the car recognised me and got excited. They wanted to take a picture, but their dad said they were in traffic,” he recounted.

Kalybos said he noticed the traffic ahead was slow-moving, so he stepped out of his car and sat in the back seat of the family’s vehicle to take the photos. According to him, the father was visibly surprised by the act of humility.

“The man was just shocked and kept staring at me. Later, he took my number,” he said.

A few days later, Kalybos received a call from the same man, who explained that he only gets to bond with his children during trips to Ghana. He also shared a past incident where his kids were snubbed by a popular actress when they had tried to take photos with her at a mall.

Deeply touched by Kalybos’ gesture, the man invited him to his office for a chat. After the meeting, he handed the actor an envelope.

“Something told me I should open it. I opened the envelope and it was a cheque,” Kalybos said. “The biggest free bono money I have ever had in my life. It was a hundred thousand Ghana cedis.”

He revealed that he used the money to purchase his second car.

Kalybos is known for his breakout role in the Boys Kasa series and has since featured in numerous Ghanaian films, earning a reputation as one of the country’s most prominent comedic talents.
