Indian Prime Minister Honoured with Ghana’s Highest Civilian Award for Global Leadership

India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has been awarded Ghana’s highest civilian honour ‘The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’, in recognition of his outstanding global leadership and commitment to strengthening ties between Africa and Asia.

The prestigious honour was conferred by Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, during a brief ceremony that underscored the growing bond between Accra and New Delhi.

In presenting the award, President Mahama praised Mr Modi’s leadership style, describing him as a “visionary statesman whose influence transcends borders.” He lauded the Indian Prime Minister for deepening South-South cooperation and for India’s increasing role in Africa’s development through trade, technology, and capacity-building.

“Prime Minister Modi’s leadership continues to inspire a generation of emerging global leaders, and Ghana is proud to recognize his contribution to peace, economic cooperation, and international solidarity,” President Mahama said.

In a brief acceptance message shared through his official platform, Mr Modi expressed deep gratitude to the people of Ghana, noting that the honour reflects the shared aspirations and enduring friendship between the two nations.

Diplomatic observers say the honour not only reflects the personal rapport between the two leaders but also signals India’s growing engagement with Africa, especially in areas of infrastructure, education, and digital innovation.

The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana is reserved for individuals who have rendered distinguished service to Ghana or humanity, with past recipients including heads of state and internationally respected figures.

This marks a historic moment in Indo-Ghanaian relations, setting the stage for deeper cooperation in the years ahead.
