Woman Arrested in Tema for Possession of Suspected Narcotics

A 29-year-old woman, Sophia Amankwa, is in the custody of the Tema Regional Police Command for the unlawful possession of suspected narcotics at Dogo Junction near Ada in the Greater Accra Region.

According to a police statement, the suspect was arrested on 25 June 2025, following the interception of a tipper truck with registration number GW 9768-12.

The driver abandoned the truck and reportedly fled the scene.

A search uncovered a substantial quantity of suspected narcotics: 3,900 compressed and cello-taped slabs packed in 52 sacks believed to be Indian hemp.

Preliminary investigations have established that Sophia is the owner of the suspected narcotics and is assisting with further investigations.

Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for the driver of the vehicle and other possible accomplices.

The Tema Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking and other related offences in the region.
