Former Western North Regional Minister Joojo Rocky Obeng has applauded ex-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his unwavering faith in young, politically active members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Obeng credits Akufo-Addo’s belief in youth leadership for his own elevation to high office.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s ‘Face to Face’, Obeng praised the former president for fostering an inclusive governance style that deliberately empowered the youth.
“Former President Akufo-Addo naturally comes out as that president who has faith in the young politically active part of his party base,” he said.
Obeng highlighted Akufo-Addo’s skill for spotting potential among young professionals within the NPP and offering them key leadership roles, including positions as ministers, deputies, and chief executives.
“He gave a lot of us opportunities, many were sent into Chief Executive positions, and others into ministerial and deputy ministerial positions. It was just natural that I would be part of the team he would call,” Obeng remarked.
The former minister’s comments come amid ongoing debates within the NPP regarding the role of youth leadership and the need for generational renewal in the party as it prepares for the Party’s Presidential primaries.
