Stephen Appiah Confident in Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup Qualification

Black Stars Management Committee member and former Ghana Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, has expressed strong confidence in Ghana’s prospects of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Despite a challenging campaign in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, the team has shown resilience and remarkable improvement in the World Cup qualifiers. Recent emphatic wins against Chad and Madagascar have placed the Black Stars at the top of their Group with 15 points, three ahead of second-placed Comoros, with four matches remaining.

Appiah’s optimism stems from the team’s recent performances, including friendlies during the Unity Cup in the UK, where Ghana faced Nigeria and Trinidad. “The new players who came showed themselves well. For what I saw against Chad and Madagascar and the friendlies… nothing tells me that we are not going to qualify,” Appiah told Citi Sports.

The Black Stars will regroup in September for their next qualifiers against Chad and Mali, as they aim to secure their spot in the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Fans remain hopeful as the team continues to demonstrate renewed determination and unity.
