Be ready for accountability after holding public office – Anti Corruption Conveyor

Mr. Appiah Kubi, an Anti-Corruption Advocate, has urged government appointees to embrace accountability after their tenure in public office, thereby repudiating corruption and related allegations associated with public officials.

Addressing the ongoing dispute between the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, Mr. Appiah Kubi expounded that every public officeholder must recognize that the position they occupy is not a private enterprise. Consequently, they must be prepared to account for their actions whenever necessary. He expressed bewilderment at the Finance Minister’s evasive maneuvers with the OSP.

He implored the former Finance Minister to present himself to the OSP if he is confident that no unscrupulous activities transpired during his tenure at the ministry, and to cease the incessant excuses.

Mr. Appiah Kubi underscored that the fight against corruption should be a matter of national interest, free from political favoritism. He insisted that it is crucial for the current administration to rigorously investigate and, if necessary, prosecute its own appointees for corruption, just as it is done with opposition parties and members of previous governments.

He emphasized that a government in power initiating comprehensive investigations into corruption allegations against its own appointees would demonstrate effectiveness in combating corruption and dissuade others from engaging in corrupt activities, thereby safeguarding the public purse.

Mr. Appiah Kubi expressed his gratitude towards the OSP for declaring Ken Ofori-Atta, the former Finance Minister, as wanted and placing him on an INTERPOL red notice. He remarked that this is a substantial demonstration of our commitment to combating corruption. He observed that corruption undermines investor interest and confidence; therefore, combating it will attract numerous investors to the country to foster economic growth.
