The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has charged Division One League club Golden Kick FC and their head coach, Nii Parker Hanson, following incidents during and after their 2-1 defeat to Asante Kotoko in the 2025 MTN FA Cup final.
Coach Hanson is facing charges of misconduct for post-match comments criticizing match officials, which the GFA deemed inappropriate and damaging to the reputation of the game. The governing body cited violations of the Division One League Regulations, with the coach required to respond to the charges by Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
Golden Kick FC, as a club, has also been charged under the GFA Disciplinary Code and Division One League Regulations. Allegations include supporters throwing objects onto the pitch during the match and inflammatory social media posts targeting match officials. The GFA stated that these actions tarnished the image of the competition.
The FA Cup final, held at the Legon Stadium, saw Asante Kotoko secure a record-extending 10th title and a coveted spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup. However, the tension on the pitch and subsequent controversies have cast a shadow over the celebratory atmosphere.
Golden Kick FC has until the same June 18 deadline to respond to the charges. The club and their coach could face fines or other sanctions depending on the outcome of the GFA’s disciplinary proceedings.
The GFA emphasized its commitment to maintaining discipline and protecting the integrity of the sport, urging all stakeholders to uphold the values of fair play and respect.
