Radio stations advised to be cautious with call-in programmes

Techiman (B/A), Aug. 17, GNA- Mr Unas Owusu, Brong-Ahafo Regional President of Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, has appealed to radio stations to be circumspect in handling phone-in programmes.

He said both electronic and the print media have a crucial role to play in ensuring peaceful electioneering campaigns for the December general elections.

Mr Owusu, who is the Managing Director of Unasco Company at Techiman was addressing more than 400 Ahmadis at an annual delegates conference at Techiman.

He stressed that journalists should not behave as politicians by taking sides in political issues but rather allow objectivity to be their hallmark.

The Ahmadi leader urged the leadership of the various political parties to ensure that people who spoke on platforms used decent language and avoid casting insinuations on their opponents. Mr David Boamah-Asumadu, Chairman of Techiman Urban Council and Assembly Member for Ahenbronoso electoral area, cautioned political parties against engaging children to deface posters of political opponents.

He called on members of the political parties to accommodate each other and cultivate tolerance and patience to demonstrate their political maturity.

Maulvi Yusuf Bin Salih, Head of Ahmadi Regional Missionary urged members of the sect to remain steadfast and pray for peace during and after the elections. 17 Aug 04
