Ghana has been ranked 8th among Africa’s top 10 manufacturing countries, according to a report by The African Exponent.

The report credits Ghana’s long-term focus on value-added manufacturing in agriculture and cocoa for transforming its industrial landscape.

The “One District One Factory” initiative has also contributed to the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), while established firms like Kasapreko and Fan Milk have extended Ghana’s manufacturing reach internationally.

The report ranks South Africa as the top manufacturing country in Africa, followed by Egypt and Nigeria. According to the report, South Africa’s advanced infrastructure and diversified industrial base make it the continent’s manufacturing giant.

Egypt’s manufacturing ecosystem is driven by exports to Europe and the Middle East, with a strong presence in chemicals, cement, and pharmaceuticals.

Nigeria’s manufacturing ambitions are buoyed by a large domestic market and policy reforms, with leading sectors including cement, consumer goods, and oil refining.

The top 10 manufacturing countries in Africa are:

1. South Africa

2. Egypt

3. Nigeria

4. Morocco

5. Kenya

6. Algeria

7. Ethiopia

8. Ghana

9. Tunisia

10. Zambia

The report highlights the leading sectors in each country, including automotive, steel, and chemicals in South Africa, and cement, textiles, and pharmaceuticals in Egypt.
