“I Can Play as Winger or Full-Back” – Gyamfi Vows to Bring Versatility to Aberdeen

Aberdeen’s new signing Emmanuel Gyamfi has declared he’s ready to make an impact wherever he’s needed on either flank, as a winger or full-back.

The 20-year-old German youth international joins the Dons on a four-year deal from Bundesliga 2 outfit Schalke 04, subject to visa and international clearance. He becomes manager Jimmy Thelin’s third summer signing as the club looks to build on their Scottish Cup success and prepare for a return to European competition.

“I can play as a winger or full-back, on the left or right. “I hope being able to play in different positions will help the team. I’m strong, fast and can dribble, and I just want to get a good pre-season and get going.”

Highly rated in Schalke’s academy, Gyamfi gained senior experience during a season-long loan with Dutch side VVV-Venlo, where he made 30 appearances across the 2024–25 campaign. While primarily used at left-back, he was also deployed at right-back, left midfield and both wings, showcasing the adaptability that caught Aberdeen’s eye.

“Scottish football will be intense, so I will be ready both physically and mentally,” he said. “Playing in Europe has always been a dream for me, and I’m excited to be part of Aberdeen’s journey.”

Manager Jimmy Thelin hailed Gyamfi’s versatility and energy, calling him a “dynamic talent” who offers tactical flexibility as the Dons prepare for a busy season.

“Emmanuel is a young player who already has solid senior experience,” said Thelin. “He’s confident in multiple roles and that gives us great options going forward.”

The Reds are set to begin pre-season training in the coming weeks, and Gyamfi is eager to settle in and contribute.

With a strong season ahead that includes European qualifiers and domestic challenges, Aberdeen fans will be hoping the club’s newest recruit proves to be as valuable as he is versatile.
