Ashesi University receives $2M from Zenith Bank founder Jim Ovia

Founder and Chairman of Zenith Bank, Jim Ovia has donated the sum of two million dollars to the Ghanaian private university, Ashesi University.

Mr. Ovia who made the disclosure today in Accra during the grand opening of Zenith Bank Ghana Corporate Headquarters said the amount was to support Ashesi University in providing scholarship for a number of students in the next four years.

“Ashesi is almost now like our own Harvard and Stamford, like our own Ivy School and this is our own way of contributing to the development of education in Ghana where we do business. And not just make profit, but making sure that profits made are relevant to the people”, Mr. Ovia said in an interview with IFN TV.

The event had in attendance the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Olufemi Michael Abikoye among many other dignitaries.
