Greener pastures are here in Ghana – Archbishop Palmer-Buckle

The Most Reverend Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, the Accra Metropolitan Archbishop of the Catholic Church has implored the youth not to engage in perilous journeys outside the country in search of greener pastures.

Archbishop Palmer-Buckle speaking on the sale of African youth as slaves in Libya, emphasised that the thought of the existence of greener pastures only in foreign countries is a mirage, hence the need for the youth to concentrate on personal development and growth here, in Ghana.

“I am pleading with Ghanaians, the greener pastures are here in Ghana, God has given us such a blessed country called Ghana, although there are challenges, you are the one who can make it greener, there is no greener pasture anywhere, not in Europe, America, Asia and nowhere else except where God in his own infinite wisdom has planted you.

“I beg you my sons and daughters please do not let anybody deceive you, you have seen it with your own naked eyes the sufferings your brothers are going through in the desert, being eaten up by wild animals, pirates and drowning in the Mediterranean.

“If you stay here in Ghana on our own land and you farm our land, you will not drown, you will not suffer wild animals like Hyenas and Jackals attacking you, amongst others, so please let us stay and make the best of our country,” he said.

Archbishop Palmer-Buckle therefore admonished the youth to work hard to contribute their quota to the development of Ghana.

A video that shows African migrants sold as slaves in Libya sparked a global outcry. It has come to light that hundreds of Africans are being auctioned in modern slave markets for $400 per person as Libya is the main transit hub for illegal immigrants and refugees seeking to reach Europe.
