Mob storms Bawku Police Station

Bawku (UER), Aug. 13, GNA – A mob that included school children and traders on Monday besieged the Bawku Police Station, demanding the release of three suspected armed robbers in custody for them to deal with them instantly.

But personnel of the Airborne Force detachment stationed in Bawku intervened and took the suspects to Zebilla, where they were alleged to have committed the offence.

As soon as the suspects were taken away, the mob hooted and hurled stones at police personnel who responded with warning shots to disperse the crowd.

Those who were arrested were cautioned and discharged.

The Bawku District crime officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Paul Ebo told the GNA that the suspects were brought to the station by some residents who identified them as being part of a gang that had robbed traders on the Bolgatanga-Bawku highway.
