Women’s access to education must be promoted- Mrs Asmah

Sekondi, Aug. 12, GNA- Mrs Gladys Asmah, Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs has said that women’s right to education should not be hindered by cultural practices and traditions.

Women, she said, are natural home managers, care givers, and custodians of cultural values and efforts should be made to support them to achieve higher educational standards.

These were contained in an address read for her at a women’s forum organised as part of activities marking the Western Region Homecoming Summit.

The summit, dubbed “Nkabom Afahye” has the theme: “Education-key to development”.

Mrs Asmah stressed that if women were relegated to the background, they would not be able to play their roles effectively.

Mrs Hagar Akua Ntarmah, an Educationist challenged women to be assertive, and take up responsible roles in the society.

She expressed regret that, even though there were several educated women, many of them have failed to train their children properly. Mrs Ntarmah said parents should interact frequently with their children, adding, “Children need rest and recreation to develop”.

Madam Georgina Bus-Kwofie, a retired educationist noted that many young women did not know how to prepare local dishes because of the failure of their parents to do so.

She appealed to parents to train their children in personal hygiene and good manners to make them responsible adults.
