Chief justice triggers impeachment investigations against EC boss

The Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, has triggered an impeachment process against all three electoral commissioners, media reports claim.

According to the Daily Guide newspaper, there currently is enough evidence for the impeachment of the electoral commissioners who were all hit with allegations of corruption and abuse of power.

According to reports, the Chief Justice has constituted a committee to investigate all these allegations.

The five-member committee is expected to investigate the EC chairperson, Charlotte Osei, together with her two deputies – Georgina Opoku-Amankwah, who is in charge of Corporate Services and Amadu Sulley, in charge of Operations – as prescribed under Article 146 of the 1992 constitution.

It all happened when some aggrieved staff of the electoral commission filed a petition against the Charlotte Osei, demanding her immediate removal.

These angry workers claim Madam Osei fiercely abused the powers of her office in the awarding of “fraudulent” contracts to some companies including the Superlock Technologies Limited (STL) and IT Firm, Dream Oval which she paid $76,000 to.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Osei has debunked all these allegations claiming they are attempts to kick her out of power.

In a press statement, the EC boss described all allegations levelled against her as a ploy to rid her of her position as the chairman of the commission.

According to her, each and every allegation levelled in the 29-page petition is totally false and that she is ever ready to face the president should an invitation be made for her to answer to these claims and allegations.
