Corruption under Akufo-Addo worse than Mills and Mahama – Spio-Garbrah

According to a former Minister of Trades and Industries in the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, corruption in government today cannot be compared to that in the past administration.

“At least under NDC not under Mills. …not under Mahama…not under Rawlings did you hear that, to see the President you have to pay $25.000?”, he quizzed.

“And this message did not come from an NDC person. …it is coming from NPP Member of Parliament and that is what we have been told”, he stated.

Asked to compare the perceived corruption in the current government to that of the GH ¢51.2 m paid NDC’s businessman and financier Alfred Woyome’s for no work done, Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah insisted corruption under this current New Patriotic Party (NPP) is still huge comparatively.

“If hundred people visit the President each day and all ask to pay $25.000 it will get to GH¢ 51 million”, the 2020 NDC presidential hopeful calculated.

“Assuming NDC was corrupt or some corruption occurred in the NDC and I’m sorry to say corruption occurs in almost all governments around the world so there will always be corruption in some governments and that is why NDC is not in power now and one of the reasons they might have been voted against us”.

“So our focus now should be on NPP who inherited what is supposed to be [a] better tradition and who told Ghanaians they will do something better”. He quizzed.

Dr.Ekwow Spio-Garbrah spoke on Metro TV’s Good ‘Evening Ghana’ hosted by Paul Adom Otchere said he will be in a pole to deal with allegations of corruption better if he becomes President 2020.

“Every President fights corruption based on or whatever happens in his or her term. …I have not been yet. …I hope to be President someday certainly in 2020 and during my term when any act of corruption that comes to my desk you will see how I deal with it”, he assured.
