Needy school children in Abura district get assistance

Abura Dunkwa (C/R), Aug. 7, GNA – One hundred and eleven million cedis worth of items procured with the GetFund, were on Friday distributed to a total of 1,137 needy school children in primary and junior secondary schools in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District. The items, included spectacles for those with visual impairments, and six crutches and wheels chairs, for the physically challenged, as well as school uniforms, shoes, and exercise books.

Distributing the items, the district director of education, Mrs Kafui Fiakpornoo described the district as one of the 40 most deprived districts in the country and said the package was to encourage needy students to continue with their education.

She expressed concern over the poor BECE results in the district, and appealed to parents to ensure that, their children study at home, and are in school regularly, instead of sending them out to sell or to farm.
