NPP Supporters Storm Insight

About 60 supporters and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stormed the office of The Insight last Friday to protest against what they described as the undemocratic tendencies of their leaders.

The agitated supporters who came in three buses said their leaders were deliberately promoting the interest of one parliamentary aspirant against all known norms of democracy. ?We have come to you (The Insight) because we know you will publish the truth,? said one of the leaders of the agitators.

A lady who gave her name as Yaa Bimpong, said, ?if our leaders don?t change their attitude, they will destroy our party.? The protestors left behind a copy of a petition which they had forwarded to the National Executive Committee of the NPP dated July 27, 2004. The full text of the petition is published unedited:

Re: Petition against attempts to impose Ms Esther Obeng Dapaah as NPP parliamentary candidate on Abirem Constituency.

We, in our various capacities, as Elders, Polling Station Executive, Opinion leaders and Supporters of NPP, Abirem Constituency, wish to bring to your notice, as well as to condemn in no uncertain terms, blatant attempts to impose Ms Esther Obeng Dapaah on us as the NPP parliamentary candidate.
