Police hunt for ‘serial fraudster’ in Kumasi market stalls allocation

The Ashanti Regional Police Command is on manhunt for one Kwakye said to be leading a group of suspected criminals to be extorting monies from traders in the capital, under the pretext of offering them spaces at the newly developed Race Course market.

Reports were rife in the media that some faceless Assembly members with KMA are demanding money from traders at Kejetia and its enclaves ranging between Two Hundred and Three Hundred Ghana cedis with the promise to offer them trading spaces at Race Course market.

Following media reportage, the Regional Police Commander, COP Ken Yeboah has promised investigations into the allegations.

“I have directed officers on ground to arrest one Kwakye accused of extortion money from the traders for investigation and prosecution”, the Commander revealed on Kumasi-based Abusua FM.

The police administration in the region also denied its officers aiding in the relocation of traders from Ketejia enclave to the Race Course took monies as bribes from the traders.

“We are there to give security. If there is evidence of bribery against any officer just come to me for action”, COP Ken Yeboah told host Kwame Adinkra.

Meanwhile, Assembly (KMA) earlier denied taking money from traders and hawkers at Kejetia and its enclaves in the metropolis as bribes to offer them stalls.

“We deny taking money from any trader”, the Presiding Member (PM) of the Assembly, Hon. Abraham Boadi has refuted those allegations on air.
