NCWD take over former American embassy

Accra (Greater Accra) 24 Nov ’98

The National Council on Women and Development (NCWD) today became the new landlords of the former American embassy building near the ministries in Accra.

Mr Nathan Quao, Presidential Staffer, presented the keys of the embassy built by the Americans in 1957 under lease to Mrs Molly Anim Addo, chairperson of the NCWD, at an impressive ceremony attended by various women’s groups.

The Americans relocated in 1985 and the building was owned by the government through a barter arrangement.

Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, First Lady and President of the 31st December Women’s Movement, urged the NCWD to work more efficiently to rally all Ghanaian women together.

”We want the best out of the NCWD. We look forward to having qualified efficient women who will help the organisation to grow to help our women.”

Nana Konadu said the role of the NCWD in nation building is very crucial and stressed the need to draw good programmes that will help it to deal with various issues confronting women in Ghana.
