Women MPs call For Reinstatement Of GCB Boss.

The women caucus in Parliament has jumped to the defense of the dismissed Ghana Commercial Bank boss, Matilda Obeng Ansong.

The former managing director of the Bank was sacked by the board last week.

The group is asking for her reinstatement saying her dismissal was unjustified after serving for many years.

Mrs Obeng Ansong?s dismissal has been linked to her decision to grant a loan of 3.4 billion cedis to an export company, Transport and Commodities General, without the approval of the bank?s board of directors.

The leader of the women?s caucus, Grace Coleman, told JoyNews that it was unfortunate that after several years of service to the bank, Mrs.Obeng Ansong should be dismissed two weeks to her retirement.

She said the group is not agitating for her return merely because she is a woman but because they believe an injustice is being perpetrated against someone who has paid her dues to the nation.

Mrs. Coleman also said the dismissal of the GCB boss has the potential of discouraging people from taking initiatives in the interest of the country.

Mrs. Coleman, a former deputy finance minister, said she could attest to the quality of Mrs. Obeng Ansong?s work.

“The board members want to victimise her. I have worked with her before when I was in the Finance minsitry. She is competent and will not have erred to warrant an instant dismissal”, she added.
