Accra, Aug. 3, GNA – The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), a nongovernmental organisation, on Tuesday presented 110 bales of clothing worth 210 million cedis to the Ghana Prisons Service in Accra. The items made up of 50 bales each of male and female clothing and 10 bales of blankets are to support inmates of the prisons.
Mr Justice Abbey, Deputy Director of Finance, ADRA, who presented the items, said the support was in response to the Prisons Service’s need to ensure proper care of prisoners. ADRA, he said, provided developmental as well as relief services to the needy and hoped to establish good rapport with the Prisons Service to ensure the provision of care and support for prison inmates.
Mr William Kwadwo Asiedu, Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, thanked ADRA for the support. He said it was important for the Service to ensure total transformation of inmates and since government alone could not shoulder the burden it behoves all citizens to be involved to ensure proper care of prisoners. He said the nation’s prisons had numerous needs and called on other benevolent societies and organisations to offer support to help cater for those needs.
