Don’t assist only brilliant students – Registrar

Accra, Aug. 02, GNA – Alhaji Rahim Gbadamosi, Registrar of the Islamic University College, near Legon, on Monday appealed to philanthropists and organisations, to extend their assistance beyond “needy but brilliant students”, to embrace all needy students. He said the good motive to assist needy students would be defeated if philanthropic attention were focused on a few brainy ones at the top without considering the not exceptionally good but needy students as well.

Alhaji Badamosi made the appeal on Monday when he received a cheque of 10 million cedis, donated by EPP Books Services, a book distribution company, to assist needy students of the University. Mr Ben Kudjoe, Marketing and Research Executive of the EPP Books Services, presented the cheque on behalf of the Company, at the University, located at Adjiriganor, near Legon in Accra.

Mr Kudjoe said the presentation was to cushion the payment of fees by poor students. He said: “This donation is part of EPP social responsibility, to assist brilliant but needy students.” The money would be used at the discretion of the College to assist needy students. Alhaji Gbadamosi thanked EPP Books for the assistance and said the College was delighted at the Company’s generous sentiment. He said the Islamic University College also admitted non-Muslim students, but its emphasis is to cater mostly for students from Muslim deprived communities to promote higher education among them. Alhaji Ali Seidu Pelpuo, Deputy Registrar, later conducted the EPP team round the College’s library, Internet cafe and computer laboratory, hostel and mosque.
